Embryolisse

Product reviews...

As you may know, I often receive products to try out and review. I also include these when I can, in my make-up columns in The Journal magazines. One of the products was Embryolisse lait-crème concentre, which I love and actually use on myself anyway, so it is easy reviewing this lovely product.

Firstly, I love the packaging, as as its in a tube, it is hygienically used, (so no fingers dipping in and out of a pot), and also there is no waste, you can squeeze the tube and even cut open the tube to make sure there is nothing left inside. This product is simply a lovely moisturiser to use for all skin types. No wonder it is dubbed the "24 hour miracle cream" and is a cult fave since the 50's. This is a 6-in-1 product! primer, moisturiser, remover, mask, aftershave cream and great for baby care! It has a combination of ingredients of natural origin, rich in essential fatty acids and vitamins. Not only that, it is paraben free and not tested on animals.

It has a creamy texture and leaves a satin film. I love using this on myself, if I have say a tinted moisturiser that isn't moisturising enough, I will mix it in so it then has the correct consistency. I also love to use it on my clients prior to applying any make-up. You only need a small amount, a little goes a long way! at £13 for 30 ml a must-have in anyone's make-up bag! The only things I don't like about this product is that it has no SPF and also have to keep ordering more of it! (as mentioned, you could mix with another product containing SPF to ensure protection.)

Jojoba day cream - This is a lovely product and I am definitely a fan! I was a little apprehensive trying this out, as my skin can tend to be a bit sensitive, but it was fine. The only thing was it is quite a rich cream, so if you have oily/combination skin, you would probably be better using this as a night cream. As it is rich, you only need a small amount. I also gave my Mum a little of this to try out, and she loved this product, she has dry/mature skin.

It is a botanically derived moisturiser, enriched with green tea, and smells devine! I do love the packaging, it has quite a unique shape to the bottle and looks lovely on my dressing table, its a lovely matte glass bottle too. As I am a little obsessed with SPF, I was disappointed, again, that this had no SPF in it - perhaps as most foundations have it in now, companies are not bothering? At £31.95 a good price for a great product, when you think most high end moisturisers can be anything from £30 - £70!

Puffy the eye bag slayer - I have been known to adorn these little beauties from time to time! I do suffer with tired eyes and dark circles, so after popping them in the fridge to cool, I gave these a whirl. They are little curved patches that you place underneath your eyes and then leave on for up to 10 minutes, (although I have been known to fall asleep with them on and then wake up having to search for them!) The ingredients include green tea and Aloe vera and for 3 patches for £6 a steal! They are formulated to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, (yes please!) and to revitalise the delicate eye area. I found these very refreshing and especially so if you are going out for the evening, so apply them after cleansing your face, remove and then apply your usual moisturiser...and voila! you look refreshed and ready for anything! Definitely worth using and highly recommend!

The Guest Blogger: March (spring)

So, a new season, a new blog...hopefully I can give you, the teenage girls out there who need money saving alternatives; and easy application ideas; to get that fresh faced feel this spring.

As a fellow teenager, I know how tricky achieving that perfect median between ‘not looking like a ten year old wanna-be’ and ‘applying too much make-up like the girls on Towie’ can be. Therefore I have come up with a simple solution that has not only seen me through the changing seasons of nature and make-up, but also enabled me to apply enough make-up so I can still achieve the looks I see in the magazines- just without applying that much make-up and using Photoshop in the process…Don’t worry, I’m not going to be one of those people who go on a bit too much about stereotyping, but just a quick pointer: the people that you see aren’t really who they are in ‘real life’. But anyway, back to that solution I was telling you about- basically, what I do is look at a lot of pictures on Pinterest (if you haven’t got this, I highly recommend! I have my whole life planned on there, however sad that sounds…) and in fashion magazines such as Look- my personal favourite- every time I see a make-up look that makes me think “I want to copy that”, I use my brain to its full advantage: instead of being all ‘sciency’ and thinking logically, I just think of alternative ways I can re-create this look on myself, by using the products I already have. Easy, right? But, if you’re in a situation when you really don’t have any products that could possibly complement each other to look like a personalised version of what you see, you may have to go to the last resort; plan B- go shopping.

Not like shopping is a bad thing (if you absolutely loath shopping, I don’t suggest you read on), as I have been in this situation many times myself, and has always felt nervous every time I hand those golden coins of vanity over to the impatient cashier across the life or death boundary, that is, the till. But I sincerely recommend not shopping for make-up online, unless you a) have already tried the product in a store, or b) your mum has a discount card that can only be used on the website…so instead, take a trip down town (hopefully not to prison though, shop lifting is not part of the solution) and test out some products in Boots, Superdrug or even House of Fraser so you can find the product you have really been longing for. However, there’s always that possibility, a very likely possibility, that you will purchase more than you went in for, as all will power during those deciding seconds of “Do I go for the 3 for 2, or 50% off?” goes completely out the window. So, if you can hold on for a few days, weeks, or months (worse-case scenario) whilst you wait for the big bucks of a few pounds to roll into your purse, I recommend doing a spring make-up haul to spruce up your cosmetic collection. And I think you should look out for a few of these essentials, which I wouldn’t even miss:

Garnier BB Cream Special Combination to Oily skin (£9.99)

Maybelline Dream Terra Sun (£6.49)

Illamasqua Gleam Cream in Aurora (£20)

Rimmel London Brow This Way Eye-Brow gel (£3.99)

Urban Decay Eye shadow Primer Potion in Original (£16)

Naked 2 Palette (£37)

MAC Sized to Go False Lashes in Black (£10)

Eyeko Eye-Do Liquid Eyeliner in Brown (£15)

Autograph Ultra-Rich Colour Twist-Up Lipstick in Pink Parfait (£9.50)

Maggie Hunt brushes

Its all go at the mo!...

I had the opportunity recently to be asked to be involved working on the Victoria Secrets show in London! I had 2 emails from Milan, but sadly it wasn't to be! ...Next time perhaps?! One of my lovely friends who I used to go to the London College of Fashion with, put my name forward so I would work in his make-up team...neither of us were put through though but it was an honour to be considered anyway!

I have been so busy lately with bookings and enquiries.  I have also been busy with a new make-up workshop training venture.  I have done this kind of thing before a couple of years ago for a lady who had come from Suffolk, she had trained with Pixiwoo also, and was keen to update her skills further.

So, I had the pleasure of doing another make-up workshop recently for a lovely lady from Hampshire.  The day included demonstrating various looks and techniques, and what products I recommend, it was a lovely day and I aim to do more of these, (time permitting!)

I was also very lucky to win some amazing make-up brushes from the wonderful, Queen of make-up herself, Maggie Hunt, the brushes are so beautiful, and I love working with them!

I am also busy writing for Lincoln Journal and also Lincolnshire Journal magazine, and I really do enjoy writing.  My new column in the Lincoln Journal is "Look of the month" and I recently did a couple of make-up looks on a beautiful model called Lucy.

I have also got quite a few interesting projects lined up, with a trip to London on the cards, so watch this space! x

January make-up, etc...

I have been asked to write for The Lincoln Journal, so I am very happy to announce I shall be writing a regular monthly column for them, alongside my Lincolnshire Journal column, which will be totally different.  I will be doing a "Look of the month" feature in the Lincoln one and the Lincolnshire one will be focusing more on trends and what I have been up to, and what I recommend product wise.

I have been extremely busy so far this month booking in my clients for their make-up trials and also doing make-up lessons.  I have been busy replying to e-mails and enquiries too, but sadly, I haven't been able to oblige with most of the e-mails, as I have already been booked.  Please remember, if you want to book a reputable make-up artist, then allow at least 2 years to book them in for your wedding day! It may seem too far away to book but I have had to turn so many people away, and I hate not being able to help people!

I have also been busy reviewing some products from various brands and I will be blogging about these very soon, its always great to receive new products to try out.

I also announced the winner of  my Facebook competition, which was Jo Snook, and she won over £100 of make-up products! so keep your eyes peeled for further competitions!  I was lucky enough to win a competition myself by the way...I won some beautiful Maggie Hunt make-up brushes, I never usually win anything! so I was amazed! Maggie is a make-up legend and is such a lovely, kind lady too.  I am honoured to be in touch with her.

I am also planning a trip to London soon to visit lots of art galleries to inspire me so I am really excited about that, I also hope to meet up with lots of my friends who I went to The London College of Fashion with over 20 years ago!

I am also busy planning a day make-up workshop for a lady wanting to train in make-up, at the end of this month, so its all go!  She is coming from Basingstoke to train with me.

Thanks for reading my blog and please get in touch if you need any advice or help with anything make-up related!x

Bobbi Brown tweet!

Bobbi Brown tweet!

I have been a huge fan of Bobbi Brown for over 17 years and fell in love with the brand. I used to work for Bobbi in Nottingham, (I was trained by them in London too.)  I am a little obsessed! I loved getting a tweet from Bobbi herself....

A very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all!

Well, 2014 is drawing to an end, and what a year it has been...where has it gone?!  I have met some wonderful people this past year and had the pleasure of working with some great people too.

I am really looking forward to relaxing over Christmas with my family...and taking time out to try out some new make-up of course!

Next year looks to be another very busy one for me, there's very limited availability now, with bookings being taken for 2016 too already.   I do work nationwide so I have taken on work in Bedfordshire, Selby and Hampshire so far for next year - I love seeing all the different locations people choose for their weddings.

I am going to be introducing lots of new make-up lessons so I aim to concentrate on that next year, there are also some other new exciting projects in the pipe-line.  I have also been asked to write a column for the Lincoln Journal alongside my column in the Lincolnshire Journal, which I love doing, so please get in touch if there is anything you would like me to cover - tina@tinabrocklebank.co.uk

I would like to wish my customers and friends a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year - here's to a happy and healthy and 2015! xxx

Daniel Sandler cosmetics

Daniel Sandler cosmetics...

I had the pleasure of trying out some new make-up from celebrity make-up artist, Daniel Sandler recently.  I have admired Daniels' work and excellent cosmetic products for a while, so was chuffed to sample some of the following -

Watercolour blush in Flush - This is a beautiful product in a liquid form in a little bottle, you only need a tiny amount and you can either apply it with your finger or an angled brush, (Daniels watercolour brush is perfect.)  It is great if you prefer a dewy glow from your blush, and I personally prefer either a cream blush or a liquid one to be honest.  Not only are these easy to apply but they are waterproof! so stay on all day long and are so easy to blend, they look very natural too.  I highly recommend these.  There are also lots of other beautiful shades to choose from. (£15.50)

Sculpt and slim - contour kit (£24.50) - All of the packaging is very high end. This comes in a lovely handy little compact with a mirror.  The "shade" part is great to apply under cheekbones, around temple and jawline, infact anywhere where you want to decrease areas on your face, a perfect matt shade.  The lighter shade is to be used on the top of your cheekbones, cupids bow or anywhere else you want to highlight, like underneath your brows too perhaps, a beautiful product.

Radiant sheen, (£28) - This creates a lovely subtle sheen, to be used on top of your blush or gently apply on the top of your cheekbones to create a lovely glow.

Beyond sunset eyeshadow palette and Scandal at midnight eyeshadow palette - (£28) - Again, beautiful packaging and when you open to see the shades inside, wow! beautiful textures and shades so you can achieve many different effects and depths, these can be used wet or dry too.

Luxury lip gloss (£14.75)  and Super bare lip gloss (£10)- The luxury lip gloss comes with a handy little applicator to easy to apply, it smells "melony" and lasts a long time, it has a lovely sparkle to it too, (I chose Skinny dip.)  I also love the Super bare lip gloss and its very glossy, and gloopy so stays on a long time, (apply over a lip pencil too for added longevity.)  This is a perfect nude shade.

Gothic bridal beauty

Halloween/Gothic bride shoot

A very hectic time at the moment, as I am juggling with shoots and my wedding work, plus I have just been taken on with an agency in Birmingham, so its all go at the moment.  You will see below what I have been up to - a Halloween/Gothic bridal look, just for fun really.  I wanted to create something that looked a little haunting but still beautiful at the same time.  I blocked out Leannes eyebrows first with pritt stick! (yes Pritt stick, it is completely safe!)  I kept powdering and adding foundation until the brows were blocked out.  I then evened out Leannes skin with Bobbi Brown foundation stick and concealer and dusted over with a loose powder.  I wanted to create a really dramatic, dark eye so used Charcoal eyeshadow from Bobbi Brown and added a gel liner and some amazing false lashes from www.falseeyelashes.co.uk these were some Red cherry ones.  I then paled down the lip by using concealer and then contoured the cheeks with some Tom Ford cream, (shade and Illuminate.)  I also then added a dark lip to mix things up a bit.
